Description
When raptors are found sick or injured, there are groups who will rescue them and rehabilitate them. Many times, they can be returned to the wild. Sometimes, their injuries are too severe to release them back into the wild. The ones that can't be released are cared for and taken around to provide an education experience. This Great Horned Owl could not be released. It didn't seem to mind too much. The reason for seeing the owl's tongue is that they pant to get relief from the heat, much like a dog does. It does get hot here in the desert, even in the shade.
